Tool Maker Requirements
Training: Typically requires a 4-5 12 months apprenticeship or comparable program combining school room instruction with hands-on experience.
Education: Just before an apprenticeship, a robust foundation in math concepts and physics highly recommended.
Skills:
Proficiency throughout operating various equipment: milling machines, lathes, grinders, laser blades, etc.
Strong comprehension of precision and accuracy, adhering to tolerances as small as one ten-thousandth of the inch.
Sound computer skills along with familiarity with CAD/CAM technologies, CNC machines, and even computerized measuring musical instruments.
Tool and Die Company Houston and meticulousness are essential qualities.
